Mirehouse Estate and Gardens
Mirehouse near Keswick consists of a historic house and gardens
near the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. It is overlooked by Skiddaw
and has magnificent views of the surrounding area. It has the
largest woodland adventure playgrounds in the area and in 1999
it won the award as 'Best Heritage Property for Families in the
UK.
Mirehouse
has an amazing history including strong links with poets Tennyson,
Wordsworth and Southey. The house is the family home to the Spedding
family who are often on hand to assist visitors. There is a tearoom
specialising in Cumbrian cooking.
